Munster SHC: Tipp finish strongly to earn draw
TIPPERARY 2-20 CORK 1-23
Report by Denis Hurley for GAA.ie
Substitute Jake Morris earned Tipperary their first point of the Munster SHC round-robin as his injury-time equaliser secured a draw against Cork at Semple Stadium on Sunday.
In a pulsating game, Cork looked to have done enough to secure a second straight win as late points from Séamus Harnedy and Shane Kingston (two) gave them a cushion following an excellent Tipperary fightback.
When Anthony Nash saved brilliantly to deny John O’Dwyer a goal, it looked as if it wouldn’t be Tipp’s day, but points from Jason Forde and John McGrath gave them hope. Even still, the equaliser looked to be elusive as Seán O’Donoghue blocked down O’Dwyer and Noel McGrath shot wide, but at the very end, Morris – with his first touch – fired over after Cork uncertainty. After a brief wait for clarification from the score-adjudication system, the point was awarded and that was that.
Cork had begun at a break-neck pace, with seven unanswered points inside 14 minutes as they operated at a tempo that Tipp couldn’t deal with. Daniel Kearney, nominally wing-forward, was everywhere, chipping in with two points while captain Séamus Harnedy had three and was fouled for another, the free converted by Patrick Horgan.
In the midst of all of that, Tipp should have had a goal with one of their few cohesive attacking movements. Séamus Callanan’s good crossfield ball found John McGrath on the run and he fed Patrick Maher, but while most of thee 22,456 in attendance prepared for the net to dance, Cork goalkeeper Anthony Nash pulled off a wonderful save.

However, Nash could do nothing to drive Jason Forde’s drive on 14 after he picked up a loose ball when Patrick Maher was blocked down, and quick points in the wake of that from Brendan Maher and Noel McGrath left just two in it all of a sudden.
When a Horgan shot was waved wide after consultation, Patrick Maher reduced that gap to just on after winning the puckout, but Cork came stronger again.
They reeled off another five points in a row, Shane Kingston really coming to the fore with two points from searching deliveries, while Harnedy, Horgan and Kearney continued their impressive output.
After Noel McGrath’s second left it 0-13 to 14, Kingston struck for a Cork goal. When he won the ball from a Nash puckout, he exchanged passes with the ever-lively Darragh Fitzgibbon and, though he looked to have been dispossessed as he came in from the left, he managed to get his shot in, beating Brian Hogan from a narrow angle.
The nine-point advantage still pertained at half-time, Cork 1-15 to 1-6 to the good, but Tipp – with John O’Dwyer on – responded strongly at the outset of the second half, putting together five points in a row, three from Forde with the McGrath brothers getting one each.
Horgan ended Cork’s drought with a free after he had been fouled himself and Conor Lehane got on the scoresheet after Luke Meade had blocked down a Séamus Kennedy clearance.
When the next four points were shared, Cork looked to have settled again, but a good Tipp move ended in a second goal, O’Dwyer and Forde feeding Noel McGrath for a good low finish across Nash.
Bill Cooper moved Cork four in front again but Tipp were coming. Nash had to be quick off his line to deny O’Dwyer a shot, however points from Forde (65), O’Dwyer and John McGrath (two) had the home side level by the 60th minute.
That was how it finished, but not without plenty more twists and turns in the final 10 minutes.

Munster SHC: Clare outclass Waterford
Munster Senior Hurling Championship
CLARE 2-27 WATERFORD 2-18
Report By Eoin Brennan for GAA.ie
Clare got their Munster Championship bid up-and-running in style when powering past an injury-ravaged Waterford in front of 13,736 in Cusack Park, Ennis.
Home advantage was certainly influential for the Banner to unearth their best provincial championship display since reaching the 2008 Munster decider as they bounced back superbly from their opening loss to Cork with a determined display.
John Conlon was the home side’s undoubted talisman when not only scoring 1-3 but also earning the match-altering penalty at the end of the opening quarter.
Peter Duggan fired 1-10 from placed balls while Tony Kelly revelled in the freedom of home soil with six points from play on their way to only a third provincial victory in 14 outings.
In contrast, it was a truly forgettable championship bow for last year’s All-Ireland finalists who along with having to concede second best, were further depleted by a succession of injuries along with a red card for captain Kevin Moran midway through the second half.
Starting without Austin Gleeson and Pauric Mahony, Derek McGrath’s side also lost four defensive options to injury as Tadgh de Burca, Noel Connors, Darragh Fives and Barry Coughlan all had to be replaced throughout a dispiriting afternoon.
The visitors had started well with the aid of the conditions which contributed to their opening goal in the ninth minute when a Stephen O’Keeffe puck-out was gathered by Tom Devine, only to see his shot repelled by goalkeeper Donal Tuohy. Maurice Shanahan was quickest to react to fire the rebound to the net and give his side a 1-4 to 0-3 lead.
The loss of de Burca allied to a home penalty in the 17th minute saw the pendulum swing decisively towards the home side however as John Conlon was felled on his way to goal for Peter Duggan to fire to the top left corner of the net and ignite Clare into action.
Shane O’Donnell dispossessed Barry Coughlan with a shoulder to snatch an inspirational point while a second goal soon followed as Conlon shrugged off two challenges before firing past goalkeeper O’Keeffe from close range at 2-6 to 1-6 by the 23rd minute.
Gathering momentum, four further points, three from Duggan, lifted the hosts seven clear. And while Waterford did lower the half-time arrears to just five at 2-11 to 1-09, it would be accompanied by a back injury for Noel Connors that ruled him out of the second half.
Clare’s bright start on the restart through Tony Kelly (2) and Conlon was cancelled out by a goal from substitute Tommy Ryan by the 42nd minute. However, any hopes of a Waterford revival were soon quashed when spinal defenders Darragh Fives and Barry Coughlan had to replaced through injury while Kevin Moran followed them into the dressing room in the 48th minute when receiving a straight red from referee Paud O’Dwyer.
With that, Duggan punished Waterford from frees while Tony Kelly, John Conlon and Colm Galvin fended off any insurgency from Stephen Bennett who largely carried the torch for his side in a difficult second half.
Indeed, the result was known from a long way off as Clare held a double figure lead for much of the final quarter on their way to a rousing first win.
Scorers for Clare: Peter Duggan 1-10 (1-0 pen, 9f, 1’65), Tony Kelly 0-6, John Conlon 1-3, Jamie Shanahan, Colm Galvin 0-2 each, David Fitzgerald, Conor McGrath, Shane O’Donnell, and David Reidy 0-1 each.
Scorers for Waterford: Maurice Shanahan 1-6 (6fs), Tommy Ryan 1-1, Stephen Bennett and Jake Dillon 0-2 each, Tadgh de Burca, Conor Gleeson, Philip Mahony, Tom Devine, Kevin Moran, Jamie Barron, and DJ Foran 0-1 each.

Munster SFC: Cork sweep aside Tipperary
CORK 1-17 TIPPERARY 0-9
Report By Daragh Small for GAA.ie
Tipperary never recovered from the concession of a Colm O’Neill goal five minutes before half-time as Cork easily qualified for a provincial final against either Kerry or Clare on Saturday 23 June.
Playing just seven days on from their quarter-final win over Waterford, Tipperary never held the lead in this Semple Stadium clash and now have to be satisfied with a qualifier run for the remainder of the summer.
For Cork, Luke Connolly was in inspired form from the off and his six first-half points played a huge role in his side’s superiority, while the Nemo Rangers man added another four in the second-half, which helped Cork into a seventh Munster football final in the last eight years.
Cork’s last win in a provincial final came in 2012 when they defeated Clare. They have not beaten arch rivals Kerry in the decider for ten years, but on this showing they could well threaten either side in the final.
Points from Connolly and Sean White got them off to a great start in Thurles, and despite Michael Quinlivan kicking Tipp’s first after 11 minutes, the powerful full-forward was crucially denied by a great save from Mark White a minute later.
Jack Kennedy’s free did allow Tipperary to level matters, but Connolly landed his side’s next three points, before he sent O’Neill in for the crucial goal and Cork led 1-8 to 0-4 at the interval.
The home crowd might have hoped that half-time would bring about a turn in fortunes, but instead Cork continued to dominate. Connolly added two frees while Collins landed his second of the game, but finally Liam McGrath brought the deficit back to nine points when he scored 19 minutes from time.
Subs Philip Austin and Liam Boland also got on the scoresheet for Tipperary to cut the gap to five points with ten to go, but Connolly and Paul Kerrigan stepped up with settling scores to put a halt to the Tipperary recovery.
And there was still time for the brilliant Connolly to bring his tally to ten points – he landed five from play and then five in a row from placed balls – while Collins and Kerrigan bulked up their tallies in the closing stages to send Cork into the final, where they’ll look to claim a 38th provincial crown.
Scorers for Cork: Luke Connolly 0-10 (0-5f); Colm O’Neill 1-0; Mark Collins 0-3; Paul Kerrigan 0-2; Sean White & Brian Hurley 0-1 each.
Scorers for Tipperary: Liam McGrath 0-5 (0-4f); Michael Quinlivan, Jack Kennedy (0-1f), Liam Boland & Philip Austin 0-1 each.

Munster Super 10’s FÉ 15 Competition for Club Teams
WHAT IS HAPPENING?
The Munster Super 10’s is a competition run by Munster Coaching & Games for clubs throughout the Province.
It is played at 10 a side with a panel of 12 players and is open to all clubs with a choice to play football or hurling.
The games are fast, action packed and competitive. The novelty of playing 10 a side has proven a big hit with the players as it is a refreshing change to the 15 a side game.
To get a flavour of the action, click here (Ignore the dates on the video)
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
The competition starts with a blitz day on the 26th May involving 4 teams at a central location. Clubs have to be open to travel but the venues and groups will be devised to limit travel where possible while giving clubs the opportunity to play against unfamiliar opposition.
WHAT FORMAT IS USED?
Each club plays 3 games on the day and the group winners will advance to the finals in Mallow on the 16th June.
Games are played at 10 a side and the games are played 21 to 21 using u12 size portable goal posts.
The games are approximately 12 minutes per half but after playing 3 games this is more than adequate. Clubs are asked to guarantee all players a minimum of 30 minutes playing time.
All group winners will receive a specially commissioned training top while the outright winning teams in both codes will receive gear bags for all 12 squad members and a set of goal posts for their club.
HOW TO ENTER?
Clubs should contact their local GDA if they have any questions on this event.
If happy to enter, then just complete the form below.!
However, before you enter, please check that all your players will be available on the day and that you are prepared to travel.
In previous years, clubs pulled out at the last minute which is very unfair on the host clubs and other teams in the group. Therefore it is important to have your homework done before completing this form.
THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS THE 1st May
No entries can be accepted after this point.

Munster SHC: Clare sunk by late Cork surge
Munster Senior Hurling Championship
CORK 2-23 CLARE 1-21
Report By Denis Hurley for GAA.ie
A late surge in an extended period of injury time saw Cork over the line in their Munster SHC opener against Clare at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday.
With the game having been held up after an injury to Cork’s Robbie O’Flynn, 11 minutes of injury time were signalled at the end of a second half during which the sides had been neck and neck for the most part. However, when they were needed, Cork got the scores required.
Clare started at a frantic pace, with John Conlon putting them ahead within 17 seconds of the start while Colm Galvin and Peter Duggan were also on target.
The home side soon settled though as Patrick Horgan converted a free in the fifth minute before Mark Coleman landed a long-range effort and they were level when Horgan pointed a free from halfway on seven minutes.
While another Duggan free put Clare ahead again, Cork found their groove with scores from Horgan – two, one a free – and championship debutant O’Flynn to lead 0-6 to 0-4 after 16 minutes.
More than once, Clare threatened break though the Cork defence, but good defending from Damien Cahalane and Seán O’Donoghue was vital for the hosts, who had a goal chance of their own as Donal Tuohy had to save well from O’Flynn.
A scrappy half continued to ebb and flow with Cork just about keeping on top, Mark Coleman doing well to deny David Reidy a sight of goal on 25, though Colm Galvin did tie the game at 0-8 each on the half-hour.
Cork responded through Darragh Fitzgibbon and Séamus Harnedy before Tony Kelly pointed for Clare in injury time to leave just one in it at half-time. The same gap pertained by the 45th minute, when O’Flynn collided badly with team-mate Conor Lehane, necessitating a nine-minute hold-up as O’Flynn was attended to.
When the action did resume, Cork showed they hadn’t been rattled as O’Flynn’s replacement Shane Kingston launched a point attempt and, while that was heading wide, Horgan kept the ball in and Lehane produced a wonderful one-handed finish.
Horgan added his sixth point to put five in it, but Clare weren’t for lying down. The margin was reduced with points from David Reidy and Conlon and then they levelled as Shane O’Donnell’s lovely pass put Tony Kelly in, one touch taking the ball past goalkeeper Anthony Nash and the other firing to the net.
Cork had an instant response with two Horgan points, Reidy replying for Clare, and when Horgan pointed again, Kelly with a free and Colm Galvin tied the game again, 1-18 each, as injury time began.
When Cork won a free deep in their own half Horgan and Nash conferred on who should take it before Horgan sent over his tenth point of the game, quickly followed by scores from Harnedy and Lehane to leave it 1-22 to 1-19 but still with five minutes for Clare to find something.
John Conlon did get two more points for them, sandwiching a Cork score by Mark Ellis, but the game was made safe when Cork captain Harnedy netted their second goal in the 80th minute.
Congratulations to @OfficialCorkGAA’s Patrick Horgan who’s been named the @CentraIRL Man of the Match from today’s MSHC as the Rebel’s overcame @GaaClare! pic.twitter.com/FuoXeD6XZz
